Did you know that LA is the homeless capital of the nation, with 51,000 people living on the street?
The HomeWalk Cup is a fundraising competition between the offices of AT&T Center, conducted through the donation and sale of non-cash items, with proceeds supporting United Way of Greater Los Angeles’ ("United Way") efforts to fight urban poverty in LA.
The prize
The office that raises the most money will win a catered happy hour on the amazing 30th floor suite at the top of the AT&T Center. The top individual fundraiser will also receive an autographed basketball from Kobe Bryant.
How to participate?
On Thursday November 17th, bring to work any item(s) you no longer use but that someone else in the building might want to buy (sunglasses, iPods, handbags, video games...) and drop them off in the building lobby. KarmaGoat will be present to collect your donated items.
On Monday November 18th, all donated items will be available for people to begin browsing and shopping online.
On Tuesday November 22nd, a United Way pop-up store will open in the lobby for everyone to purchase and pick-up donated items. KarmaGoat will credit the appropriate office when a donated item gets sold.
On Wednesday November 23rd, United Way will announce the winner of the first HomeWalk Cup and the top individual fundraiser.
What is HomeWalk
HomeWalk is United Way's annual 5K run/walk to end homelessness. On November 19, thousands of Angelinos - led by 2011 HomeWalk chair Kobe Bryant - will help raise money and awareness to show that homelessness is a solvable problem. For more information on HomeWalk, visit http://www.homewalkla.org.
United Way is bringing people together to fight poverty across LA and improve the quality of life for everyone in our communities. Our work is exposing a side of Los Angeles that most people don't know about.
